Individual sports are also very often practiced by Europeans, such as athletics or swimming, which are easy to access and potentially cheap or free.

The Options with Tennis

Tennis is also often practiced on the continent and has a high media exposure. Two of the most prestigious tournaments (Grand Slams) are held in Europe, Roland Garros in Paris and Wimbledon in London. At present, besides Switzerland with Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka, the great European nations of the tennis are Spain (with Rafael Nadal), the United Kingdom (with Andy Murray) France (with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga or Richard Gasquet), Croatia (with Marin Cilic) and the Czech Republic (with Tomas Berdych). Other countries, like Sweden (with Bjorn Borg, Mats Wilander and Stefan Edberg) or Germany (with Steffi Graf and Boris Becker) have also had good times, but are struggling to the best tennis nations. Now with MLB중계 you can have the best of sports broadcast now.

Often portrayed as a “noble” sport or at least reserved for the upper classes, even more so than tennis, golf is also practiced by many Europeans. This is obviously the case in the United Kingdom, where this sport comes from. But this is also the case in Germany, Sweden and Spain.

European Sports Week (EWOS)

The European Week of Sport (EWOS) was introduced by the European Commission in 2015 and will open its third edition on 23 September 2017.

Inspired by the “Feel Sport” project initiated by the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) in 2010, the European Week of Sport aims to promote physical activity and sport at all levels and for all audiences, being organized around four major themes: the educational environment, workplaces, outdoor spaces and fitness clubs. A dedicated website has been launched by the European executive, while on social networks the events are associated with the hashtag #beactive and followed by the twitter account.

The European Week of Sport, coordinated by the CNOSF, this year recorded some 300 events and 5 million participants. The reference site is that of the CNOSF. A map shows all the events organized in each country.

Preferences influenced by geography and climate

Naturally, European sports preferences are influenced by their environment. This is especially true for snow or ice sports.

In alpine skiing, both professional and amateur, it is the Austrians, Germans, French or Italians who achieve the best results in Europe (with the Swiss) and who practice the most in the private setting. The same goes for Nordic skiing whose disciplines are extremely popular in Sweden and Finland. Estonians are also numerous in this area, especially in cross-country skiing marathons, which often bring together several thousand people.

Marathon

Ice hockey, a real institution in many countries in northern and eastern Europe, is no exception. The best European nations are Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The national selections of these countries often compete with Russia, Canada and the United States at the world level, while this sport is also often practiced by young people and amateurs in general.
