Volleyball Spiking Skills Training and Equipment for Practise.
Volleyball is one of the cheapest and easiest sports activities to do.
Most people take part in these sports as a recreational activity and to pass the time. For either leisure or championship purposes, the volleyball team or players need to master skills such as passing, spiking, blocking, and servicing. Spiking is one of the skills a volleyball player should thoroughly learn. The knowledge of spiking in a volleyball game is a determinant of the team’s winning chances. A spike means hitting the ball hard from the top towards the bottom so that an opponent player can dive to prevent the score. Players are trained using volleyball spike training equipment that is composed of various parts.
A volleyball spike training system has two parts, namely an operational net and a ball holder. The holder is made up of a wheeled chassis that supports a vertically placed stanchion. The stanchion in turn supports a hopper and ball delivering apparatus. The stanchion segments are can be adjusted using a crank system. The balls drop from the hopper due to gravity, rolls in an inclined ramp, and end up in the discharge throat. The balls are also separated by a z-shaped lever. For the ball to be launched, it is shot and its position is immediately taken over by a ball released from the indexing lever. The parts of spiking training equipment, therefore, consists of the following components.
- A chassis
- Support stanchion
- A hopper
- A ball discharge throat
- An inclined feeding ramps.
- A pair of hands
- Automatic indexing system
A volleyball game has two teams playing on the ground surface i.e. the attacking team and the receiving team. When an opponent player spikes the ball, the receiver team is expected to block it and prevent it from hitting the ground surface. The game’s rules only allow a team to have three contacts. The first contact is for passing the ball, the second contact is meant to prepare the ball and set it to an attacker and finally, the third contact is for attacking the opponent team which is a spike across the net. Spiking players aim at getting the ball across the net and at the same time ensuring the ball hits the ground to score.
During a spiking play, it may be evident for the opposing team to know that it is on the attack. This allows the team to create a defense formation. Defense always makes spiking difficult for the attacker since the attacker has to have control over the ball while simultaneously watching the opponents analyze their next defense move. The spiker finally hits the ball, and a proper spike normally avoids the defense action. The opponents, however, have the chance of blocking and gaining control of the ball. When the receiving team is successful in blocking an attack, they execute the three contacts in preparation for a spike towards their opponents.
Spiking is an important skill in volleyball sports. To develop skills and master spiking to different levels of proficiency, a player needs diligent practice. This skill requires the ability to coordinate and exemptional skills. A means of practicing spiking skills is, therefore, necessary to achieve a suitable level of play. A successful spike goes in a desirable direction with a high velocity that makes it hard to block. Spiking defense creates a barrier with their hands and is sometimes involved in jumping towards the predicted direction of a spiked ball. The level of unpredictability of a spiked ball determines the chances of a team scoring.
When on a spiking practice session, several nets are placed above the volleyball net on the trainee’s side. The player is expected to jump up and hit the ball from a downward angle and returning it to the other side of the net within the field boundaries. Spiking play is a lot harder than any other volleyball game. The ball, when spiked successfully, should be set and spiked to a descending arc that is almost in a vertical position to that of the net, making the ball hard to be accessed by a defending player. There are several training devices available for use in training players. The devices have fame and a projection that can be held in position by one player as the other strikes the ball in an elevated position. The device should be manually loaded with balls after they have been hit. There are a variety of designs in which the ball holder is placed on the different types of training equipment.
